#99 Working from your body’s mind in Klein Technique™️ — Susan Klein

On this episode of The Sensual Sessions podcast, we have a very special guest I've dreamed of meeting for two decades: Susan Klein, creator of the Klein Technique and an esteemed acupuncturist.

I first encountered Susan's work through a dance colleague at the Ballet Nacional de Mexico, who shared movement secrets learned from Susan herself. This included a transformative exercise known as the "roll down," which changed my approach to ballet and body alignment forever.

Which Are The Roots That Led To The Working From Your Body´s Mind In Klein Technique™️

Susan Klein recounts a pivotal moment at 19 when a severe knee injury led her to challenge conventional physical therapy. Discovering that building hamstrings, not quadriceps, supported the knee, she embarked on her path. Through personal insights and persistence, Susan developed exercises like the roll down to release tension and connect deeply with one's anatomy.

Finding Who You Really Are

“Find who you are beyond what has happened to you. Finding your essence and using anatomic as a container for the energetics of yourself, so then it's not just like something robotical or mechanical but is a connection through the the structure in you, the anatomy that doesn't change.”

Anatomy And Movement

Reflecting on my knee injury, Susan discusses how understanding anatomy—like the role of hamstrings over quadriceps—can transform movement practices. She emphasizes the importance of precise cues, such as releasing tension in the groins, to achieve optimal alignment and prevent injury.

Embodiment And Freedom

Our bodies, Susan explains, are not merely mechanical; they are energetic and dynamic. Teaching the Klein Technique involves aligning structure with energy flow, fostering a deeper connection to one's physical and spiritual self. This integration supports authentic expression and sustainable movement practices.

The Living Bones

Susan explores the profound vitality of bones, revealing them as dynamic structures responsive to energetic fields. By aligning with gravity and understanding skeletal integrity, we access stability and freedom simultaneously. This awareness transforms not only how we move but also how we perceive ourselves.

Practical Application

To experience the Klein Technique firsthand, Susan guides us through a grounding exercise. By connecting with the earth through our feet and aligning our spine from tailbone to skull, we embody stability and readiness for movement. This practice fosters a profound sense of presence and alignment with our body's innate wisdom.
